Eagle at Lake Martin
I've been really busy lately. This morning I put the finishing touches on a hardcover book for a client that is going to be really fine. After submitting the order, I stopped by Tipitina's Music Coop for a chat about band photography. I then decided to head out to Lake Martin to see what was new with the visitor's center and to see if there were any birds around. I had that feeling I sometimes get when something special is about to happen.
I drove slowly along the gravel road with my camera ready. As soon as I came around the curve leading to the long stretch near the rookery, I spotted a bright white head, high in a tree on the right side of the road. Obviously, it was ol' baldy! I stopped the car with about 50 yards to go and got out. I wanted to get closer without startling the bird. I took a quick meter reading through the camera and set it to fire.
I got pretty close before the bald eagle decided it was time to go. I got about three shots through the tree limbs before he soared over the marsh and then circle back toward the road. I last saw him headed toward the main entrance.
I returned to the car and proceeded along the road, stopping to photograph a young hawk. I also stopped at the boat landing for a chat with one of the guides. He said that a pair of eagles appears to be nesting nearby based on the frequency of sightings of the birds carrying food.
As I was turning around at the dead end, I spotted two old friends, Audrey and Pat. They were also there looking for the eagle.
Here are the photos of the eagle and the hawk...
I wonder if this hawk was one of the babies I photographed last year in the nest being fed bullfrogs by it's mom! ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/cajunphoto/3405444295/in/set-72157594581379780/ )

Looks like this will be a good year for bird watching at Lake Martin!

The K Family
What a beautiful family! They came for portraits during the holidays when all the boys and the daughter-in-law were in town.
Here are a few of my favorites from the shoot...
